Introduction

Greetings! My name is Samantha, but I really prefer to be called Sam. I'm 24 years young and I live in the wonderful city of San Antonio, TX. I was born and raised in Texas, and I never, ever want to leave!

One of my favorite things to do is cook and bake, because good food really brings people together. One of my earliest memories is helping my grandmother make homemade pierogi in her kitchen. She was Ukranian, and my grandfather was Polish. So I grew up eating pierogi (potato dumplings), kielbasa (polish sausage), and halupki (cabbage rolls). Unfortunately my grandma passed away in 2005. But I'll always think of her as the spark that ignited my love for being in the kitchen.

My mom was a pretty good cook as well. She did a lot of experimenting with recipes clipped from magazines and newspapers. Sometimes she found a keeper, and sometimes she didn't. The one thing she was really good at making from scratch was Beefaroni. Her strong point though, was baking. Christmas was her time to shine. She would also make my dad's and brother's birthday cakes from scratch. For my dad it was carrot cake, and my brother always wanted german chocolate. I usually got a chocolate cake from a boxed mix. Can you tell I was the unloved one? Hah, just kidding. I think she just didn't know what to make me. I'm not at all prejudiced when it comes to cake. Cakejudice? Whatever, I like all cake equally. Except ice cream cake.

Ice cream cake is superior to all other cake.

Sewing is another hobby of mine, and something I'm continuously learning. I've been sewing by hand for years, ever since I was little. My mom showed me the baics, and I started making clothes for my Barbie dolls out of various materials. Now I mostly sew to repair things. One of my dreams is to get a sewing machine and start making a bajillion things, like clothes, quilts, tote bags, aprons, etc.

I also like to try my hand at various arts & crafts projects, but storage space for materials, and an organized place to work, is limited in our tiny apartment. However, if my fiancé and I ever do upgrade to a bigger place, one room is going to be dedicated to my arts & crafts for sure. But, that goal is a little further down the road. Currently I'm just saving my money to get these bad boys:

Singer 9960 Quantum Stylist Sewing Machine
Sauder Sewing & Craft Table

Other things I like are butterflies, rainbows, stars, glitter, colorful buttons and beads, sharpies, gel pens, cute socks, ribbons, and ice cream. I assure you that I am 24 years old and not 12.

So pretty and sparkly...

I should probably mention what my goals are for this blog. I want to post something at least once a week. Maybe a post every Saturday or Sunday about what recipes I tried during the week and a review of them. Maybe I'll throw in an update on any crafts I'm doing once in a while. If I can meet those goals then I'll start doing step-by-step tutorials of things I like to cook or make.

Thank you for taking the time to read this! I'm very interested to know more about other people who share the same interests as me. What are your favorite cooking/craft blogs to read? I'll probably do another post soon on my favorite blogs. Take care, and God Bless!

Until next time,
Sam
